The Best Items To Merch on Runescape for November 2012

For the month of November 2012 the best items merchant on Runescape are going to fall into two different categories:

The first category of items will be those that are best for flipping.

The Best Items To Flip In November

In order to find out when the best time to flip an item for most profits, Linkbuilder and others from Lumbridgecity copied down the trading spread every 15 minutes for several items over the course of many weeks. Almost every time, the charts showed us that: the best items to flip are the items that are dropping in value and not the items that are rising.

And the easiest way to find the best items to flip November of 2012 is to go to grand exchange Central and find the items that have been dropping in value for the last seven days.

The second category of items that will be best to merchant on RuneScape in November will be those that are really good for investing.

The Best Items To Long-Term Merch in November

If you don’t have a lot of time to play Runescape, and you still want to merchant and grow your cash-stack, the investing items are best for you in November.

Find items that have been at a long time low and staying flat low prices over the months of September and October and put your money into those.

Then you can go about your busy schedule and look back at the end of November to see what the value of your items turns out to be. These are the best items to merch in November because you have a very low risk of prices falling even further, and you have a high chance of making some good profits.

Merchanting Rares in November of 2012

On November 1 we can see that the price of Party Hats and Santa Hats has gone up recently at a good clip where the price of Halloween masks have not. Normally, all these items rise and fall together, so this difference in price levels is what is called as a ‘Divergence‘ – and is highly noted to create bigger than average short-term opportunities.

Are Party Hats doing a False Breakout? Will Halloween Masks suddenly surge in prices to catch up to the trend of the other Rares?

Using party hats as a guide and Santa hats as an example – I am still, at this moment, betting that Halloween masks will quickly catch up in the next while and probably are the very best deal right now in buying Rares. At the same time, I am always re-evaluating every day, and quick to use Rule #1 when needed.

How To Merch For Double Exp Weekend

You need a system before you start merchanting – no matter if you are preparing for an update or just day-by-day flipping items for profits. When double Exp Weekends have happened in the past, prices of common members skilling items will rise in the week before – but actually break and start to drop a few days *before* Double Exp Weekend starts!

Double Exp Weekend is only for members, and usually it is members items that will rise in price – this time, double exp weekend is directly after a major new members quest for mining and smithing skills. What’s Mine is Yours is expected to create a massive demand for ore and bar as people prepare to make the run for higher levels in mining and smithing.

Fundamentals With Technicals, Plus Rule #1

Many people trade by the fundamentals – that is, the news of events that change supply and demand… things like a new quest or new double exp weekend are the Fundamentals. Here at Lumbridgecity, we take that information, and then look at the chart price patterns to determine what and when to buy or sell.

No matter what methods you use to choose when to buy into a market – every trader will benefit from learning and using Rule #1 in determining how long to hold a new investment.

Bottom Formations and Channel Breakouts

We can already see Copper Ore surging out of a massive triangle formation. Expect Tin Ore to follow suit. Mithril Ore has been flagged as potential Merch Clan Manipulation in the Metals section on GrandExchangeCentral. Presently Coal is 11th in Trade Volume on the G.E., and has been very volatile, with wide swings in prices – because this is a vital component in Smelting many bars, it may spike higher as well.

Rune Bars and Runite Ore are presently at historical lows, but if prices surge, expect them to drop back again quickly.

Botany Bay Fail – The Cold Hard Evidence

Botany Bay Fail! After all the hype and anticipation, the failure of Botany Bay, combined with the new 30 seconds of forced video ads before logging in to the ‘free’ version of Runescape – Alexa Stats suggest players have been leaving Runescape in droves.

Money Making in RS has more to do with gold sellers and bots, than merchanting on the Grand Exchange. Even the best buy-out-strategy merchanting clan doesn’t make a mosquito-bite in prices compared to the HUGE volume of resources collected by bots in the game.

I Was So Excited!

I was so excited by the build-up and anticipation of Botany Bay, that the failure has become much more disappointing to me, and the FUCKING pre-roll video ads discourages me in the most profound way.

A big FAIL, compounded by exposing your advertisers to uncounted thousands of bots logging in and ‘viewing’ these pre-roll videos… will inflate your numbers at the start, but those people who are PAYING for those ads will quickly get wise to the BOTTED AD VIEWS that are costing cash without any chance of return.

All this demise.

What IS the solution?? Is there a way to save this amazing virtual world?

Perhaps the Botany Bay Fail is really only a failure of the Marketing team. The marketing team did the big month-long build-up to the release of Botany Bay – based on a schedule that was created in a board meeting several months prior??

And was the Botany Bay technology was released before it was technically ready – just to appease the arbitrary dates set by the marketing department??….

What ever the root cause, the result is MASS damage in customer satisfaction.

What To Do When You’re Wrong In Merchanting

I have been wanting to make this post for a while – about what to do when you’re wrong in your merchanting.

It’s Not Wrong To Be Wrong

The first thing you’ll learn about merchanting or speculating – be it on the Runescape Grand Exchange or on the real-world Chicago Mercantile Exchange – is that, you are going to be wrong more often than your right. Since you can expect to be wrong more often than you are right, then being wrong, actually, is not a wrong thing to do.

In fact, many of the top investors in the real world will tell you that they are wrong 70% of the time and they are only right 30% of the time – and yet they bring in the highest returns and the best rates of percentage gains!

How Can This Work?

If you are wrong 70% of the time and you’re only right 30% of the time… how can it be that you end up making money??

The truth is, most people who try investing or speculating the real world commodities markets end up losing money – and I’ve heard a similar frustration from Runescape Players who have tried merchanting several times, lost money at it, got frustrated and went to play the flower game…. and that is high-risk gambling I avoid. I don’t even buy lottery tickets in real life. They are also a scam.

Profitable Merchanters Share Common, Learned, Habits

The people who are profitable all share common methods, common standards and common rules that they all abide by – to help them become profitable in this difficult market.

And is the same for Linkbuilder in merchanting on RuneScape, I’m often wrong on picking the best items to merchant each month.

However – I use two rules that top traders use in the real world commodities market – and these two rules tip the odds into my favor and ensure I make money even though I’m wrong more often than I’m right!

And in the Lumbridgecity merchanting guide training videos, I teach these very trading rules that help ensure my success: Rule Number One and Rule Number Two

Enter Rule #1 and Rule #2

When you first read Rule #1 and Rule #2, it may seem over simplistic… but there are many subtle important elements to these rules that you must understand before you will take the time to really implement them properly.

No matter what kind of investing you’re doing – if it’s short-term or long-term – you want to incorporate Rule #1 and Rule #2 to help you protect yourself against losses, and, make your winning trades even bigger.

Once you see how these subtle effects all work together to ensure your profitability - Rule #1 and Rule #2 will naturally become a part of all your merchanting. By practicing these two rules while merchanting on Runescape, you will develop habits and wisdom that will help you gain similar mastery over your cash stack in the real world as well.

Often these rules can also apply to other areas of your life where you can use them on setting goals, correcting missteps quickly, and boosting the successes of any of your endeavors.

Assume you were wrong unless proven correct: Reduce or remove your positions unless or until the market proves that you are correct.

Rule #2

Add to your winners without exception.

First, I want you to know that I did not make up Rule #1 and Rule #2 myself — I picked them up in my early studies of real world commodities trading.

If you want to learn from the real master about Rule #1 and Rule #2 search Phantom Of The Pits on the Internet and read everything The Phantom Of The Pits has ever published.

I was participating in the futures trading forum when Art Simpson and Phantom of the pits were slowly releasing each of the chapters in the book that Phantom wrote. This in 1997, around the time that Phantom’s personal friend, the gifted singer John Denver, was killed in a plane crash.

I now I use merchanting on RuneScape as a long-term way to get familiar with implementing Rule #1 and Rule #2 and I use Lumbridgecity website and video channel as a way of keeping a trading journal so that I can go back and see how well I actually implemented Rule #1 and Rule #2 in all my trades.

The Grand Exchange provides me with play money – it’s not real money, but it is a real market. The Grand Exchange is really driven by human greed and fear and supply and demand – enough like a free market economy that one can speculate on price changes, and even paper-trade like a stock broker. But it is just play money – a great place to practice trading.

Neurons That Fire Together, Wire Together

Now, after years of carefully merchanting and growing my cash stack on RuneScape from 13.5m to over 1.6b, I feel like I am getting into the habits of thinking Rule #1 and Rule #2 – and can easily pick out my trading signals… applying Rule #1 at the start of (almost) all my trades, and, can now patiently wait for the results to come in.

And by practicing this wealth consciousness on Runescape, and getting good at this practice environment… I have found the same thing is happening in the real world environment with real world money real world wealth real world invest earnings!

One of my favorite quotes from Phantom of the Pits

“The best time to learn about the markets is when the markets are closed.”

And so I use my trading on RuneScape as a way to practice on basically a market that is closed and it doesn’t matter if I win or lose – because it’s just play money.

That is a very interesting question – and I really don’t know the answer to that.

We see prices fluctuate all of the time. Right now there are certain resources that people don’t feel its worth their while to go after because the markets are so dominated by the bots they don’t feel the money is worthwhile for the time.

You might argue that certain items are too low in value right now because people aren’t investing genuine time into getting them.

People always talk about the price of fish, there was one time that shark were 1k and it fluctuates up and down…

I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that question.

Successful Traders Do The Opposite Of The Crowd

Traders with experience often do the opposite of what the crowd is doing. Back in March, April and May, everyone was botting and dumping herbs. Ted Bundty put out a notice and an alert for a Post-Crash-Buyout Strategy in March that made me take a closer look at all the herb prices.

I bought into a few herbs at the time, and then bought even more later in May. Then, just went about my days and kept minimal attention on herbs.

When To Sell Out And Take Profit

Two things: Knowing where I’m going to sell out is easy to set by looking at the historical charts – when the price rise begins, get your sell order in place. Second thing is, the decision is made – now forget about this trade and don’t second guess!

As prices are at their lowest and everyone is selling, I am buying.
When the trend starts going up – I set my sell order way above the listed market price.
